A drawn affair at Mt. Lavinia

Given a target of 159 to win, D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo, were 80 for seven at close as their closely contested Inter-school Under-19 two-day cricket encounter against s. Thomas’ College ended in a draw at Mount Lavinia yesterday (20).

S. Thomas,’ who commenced the day with eight wickets in hand while trailing by four runs, made amends to their first innings’ disappointments as Chamod Pathirana and Fahim Saleem did the bulk of the scoring to post 164 for eight declared.

Later, Hemaka Ariyaratne and Pathirana shared five wickets apiece to trouble their visitors who lost seven within a space of 80 runs.

However, the highlight of the game was the impressive seven-wicket haul by Sri Lanka Under-19 paceman Charith Jayampathi who restricted S. Thomas’ to 128 in the first innings.
