Ratnapura Police arrested two persons who had forged official documents including temporary driving licences and permits for sand mining. One of them had prepared the forgeries using a computer and the other had canvassed ‘orders’ for the documents.
A policeman in plainclothes dressed like a labourer had helped to catch the suspects who had been carrying on the illegal business for a long time. The policeman had gone to the place where the forgeries were being done and asked the suspects whether they could give him a temporary driving licence.
ASP Lalith Pathinayake directed the operation.
One of the suspects was earlier prosecuted for producing pornography and was also known as a person who prepared forged householders lists among other forgeries. The investigations were being conducted by the Ratnapura police.
