At least three wicketkeeper batsmen have scored over 500 runs and have accounted for nearly 30 victims in the tournament.
Wicketkeeper batsmen Andry Berenger of St. Peter’s College, Rangeeth Peiris of St. Thomas’ College, Kotte and Deshan Dias of St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa are probably the highest scorers of the on-going tournament.
Of the three, Berenger has aggregated over 700 runs and is probably the leading run scorer in the Lemonade Trophy tournament. An unbeaten 152 in 146 balls, inclusive of 11 fours and three sixes against Sri Jayawardenapura MV propelled his aggregate to over 700 runs last week. His total includes two centuries and four half centuries and he boasts of a Bradmanesque average. He also has been impressive behind wickets and has accounted for nearly 30 victims.
Rangeeth Peiris, meanwhile, has aggregated close to 600 runs. Peiris’ tally includes three centuries, with the highest being 136 against Richmond College. Another big score (129), came in their massive score of 426 against Susamayawardena MV. Peiris was impressive behind the wickets as well. He has accounted for 32 victims (27 catches, five stumpings), with a match to go in the second round. Incidentally, Peiris scored over 500 runs last year in the Under-17 tournament.
Wicketkeeper batsman Deshan Dias of St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa, who could play in the same age category for one more year, too has done well in both departments. Dias has scored nearly 600 runs, inclusive of one century (141) and four half tons. He has accounted for 24 victims (23 catches and one stumping).
The performances of these three cricketers have helped their schools to emerge on top in their respective groups and advance to the knockout stage which will be held shortly.
