

sTurnover on the Colombo bourse edged up over the Rs.100 million mark yesterday from the previous day’s lackluster Rs.86.6 million while both indices were slightly down – the All Share by 8.23 points (0.37%) while the Milanka, which was up most of the day, closed a fraction of a point down (0.42 points or 0.02%).
"It was another quiet day with very little activity," Prashan Fernando of DFCC Stockbrokers said. "Only Carsons showed some volume with a little over 50,000 shares traded.’’
Carsons traded between Rs.227 and Rs.238.50 closing the day at Rs.227.75, down Rs.11.25 from the previous close and generating Rs.12.1 million turnover.
These trades were done mostly in a few large parcels at a price level of Rs.230, brokers said.
Vallibel Power, where an AGM was held on Monday, gained 10 cents on 2.1 million shares traded between Rs.4.40 and Rs.4.50 gaining 10 cents to close at Rs.4.40 contributing Rs.9.3 million to turnover.
The Dhammika Perera controlling interest is negotiating a sale which has been announced and there was speculation about the price at which the transaction would be concluded. Shareholders were told at the AGM that it was likely that the deal would be concluded in about two weeks and the price at which the transaction will be done will be announced at that time.
JKH closed flat at Rs.85 with 93,200 shares done between Rs.84.75 and Rs.87.50 generating Rs.7.9 million to turnover.
Colombo Investment Trust (CIT) announced a one for three rights issue priced at Rs.20 subject to CSE and shareholder approval. A small quantity of 3,900 CIT traded yesterday between Rs.27 and Rs.32 losing Rs.4 to close at Rs.27.
