

BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) - Romania’s Defense Minister Teodor Melescanu is making an official visit to the U.S. where he will discuss the situation in the Caucasus, NATO and terrorism.
The defense ministry says that Melescanu was invited by U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates.
The visit runs from Tuesday until Friday.
The ministry says that Melescanu will meet Gates and the two will discuss NATO expansion and the fight against terrorism.
Melescanu will also meet officials from the State Department, the National Security Council and the U.S. Congress.
Romania is a staunch U.S. ally. It joined NATO in 2004
