Doctor held over patient’s killing attempts suicide

Medical intern Indika Sudarshana warded at the Negombo Prisons hospital is alleged to have taken sleeping tablets on Tuesday night.

A spokesperson for the Negombo Prisons said that Sudarshan, held in connection with the alleged murder of 22-year-old garment factory worker from Moneragala, had been in a depressed state of mind earlier on the day after he was brought from Court.

Responding to our queries, he said the weren’t aware of what the suspect had taken but was first rushed to Negombo Base hospital before being transferred to the National Hospital. Immediately after his arrest last November, the suspect made an attempt to kill himself by hanging. (SF)
