Two security forces personnel were yesterday shot dead around 3.30 p.m. by a Civil Defence Person in Maha Oya in the Ampara Police Division.

Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekara said the deceased were a 28 year old soldier and a 30 year old airman.

The two security forces men had arrived in a three wheeler in civvies at the place where the Civil Defence Person was on duty, a stone’s throw distance away from the Maha Oya police station and they have had a heated argument with the latter.

Later the Civil Defence Person had opened fire at the forces men.

The suspect was taken into custody. (HG)
