Kaushal (126), Thilina (88) steer SL ‘A’ to series win

Stupendous batting display by Kaushal Silva and Thilina Kandamby guided Sri Lanka ‘A’ to a series win, in their 5-match unofficial ODI series against South Africa ‘A’ on Friday (26).

After posting 301-6 in their allotted 50 overs, the Lankan bowlers restricted the home team to 220 all out in 44 overs under lights to record an 81-run win and an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series.

Sri Lanka ‘A,’ batting first after winning the toss, scored a massive 301-6 in this 4th ODI at Bloemfontein.

Inform batsmen Silva and Kandamby put on a virtually run-a-ball 210 for the 4th wicket. They raised the Sri Lanka total from 65-3 in the 12th over to 275-4 in the 46th.

Silva made 126 in 121 balls inclusive of 13 fours and two sixes while Kandamby struck 88 in 101 deliveries with six fours and two sixes. Upul Tharanga (20) and Tharanga Paranavitana (30) set a fine platform for the Lankans with a 52-run opening wicket stand in just 7.5 overs.

In their ten-over spells, Ethy Mbhalati took four for 58 and Juan Theron captured two for 55 for the home team.

Four Sri Lanka ‘A’ bowlers, Chanaka Welegedara (2-31), Rangana Herath (2-24), Ishara Amerasinghe (2-41)and Isuru Udana (2-41) shared two wickets apiece as the home team didn’t recover from early stutters losing five for 76 in spite of a fine 74 by opener Gulam Bodi.
