

Colombo Additional Magistrate Manjula Tilekeratne yesterday ordered the Edna Chocolates Company to stop Manufacturing and marketing chocolates and chocolate products pending a report from the Government Analyst.
The restraining order is consequent to a complaint by the Consumer Affairs Authority that the respondent company had imported milk powder contaminated with melamine from China.
The order was to be served to the board of directors of the respondent company at Wedamulla, Kelaniya.
The directors of the respondent company are: Buwaneka Rajamanthrilage Sriyani de Silva, Sriyan Tissa Edirisinghe, Karunadasa Samarasinghe, Shanika Sriani Edirisinghe, Mitra Gemunu Devapriya Alwis and Lal Chandra Ekanayake.
Investigating Officer S Wirawardane filing a B report stated that according to information received by the Consumer Affairs Authority the storage facilities of the respondent company had been searched and a consignment of 17 Metric Tons of full cream milk powder from Qindao SunCare Nutritional Technology Company in China had been detected. Investigations revealed that the consignment had been imported in June.
