The Somaratne Dissanayake directed ‘Siri Raja Siri’ (King Siri) increased its tally to five international film awards by bagging two more at the Rimouski international film festival in Canada recently.
The Sri Lankan film won the ‘Camerio Humanitas’ (Award for best film for humanity by the main international jury)and the CIFEJ Award (for the best film, for children presented by the international children’s film society).
Director Somaratne Dissanayake had been invited, but he did not attend the festival as he was busy in Sri Lanka with pre-production work on his new film.
Earlier, ‘Siri Raja Siri’ won awards in Mexico, Kenya, and Argentina.
‘Siri Raja Siri’ has also been nominated for the best children’s film at the Asia Pacific Screen Award ceremony, which will be held in Gold Coast, Australia on Nov. 11, 2008.
The award winning film will be screened at film festivals in Finland, the Netherlands, Iran and Italy within next two months.
