I read, with great interest, the erudite Mr. Mathmaluwa’s article on Pablo Neruda. To my horrified amusement he has presumed that while Imelda, [in my story "Brumpy’s daughter"], is alive and well in Mexico, Neruda’s Memoirs make no reference at all to her. ‘Mea culpa’ , I must confess that Imelda was but a creation of my imagination - though plausible enough for a British biographer to call me from London requesting her whereabouts in Mexico.
Mixing fact and fiction seems to be a risky business!
