A choc a block full house in the Oak Room of The Cinnamon Grand Hotel resounded with the sound of laughter, music dance and song. It was Koluu’s second show of this nature and what a resounding success it was. With the assistance of some of the finest artistes in their varied fields it was a banger from the word go. From the many different characters he portrayed it was not easy to single any one as being better than the other. Among those who contributed in no small way to the success of this hilarious evening were the likes of Lou Ching Wong, Ashok Ferry who with his easy flowing banter kept the ball rolling, and the many other contributions, such as Vanessa singing "Simply The Best" to an interview with that ‘darling’ of a culinary expert Felicia Sorenson, and so many others such as Shohan Chandiram, Travice de Niese, Anushan Perera and his dancers, besides the diva models of yester-year, Geraldine Bandaranayake, Pauline Basnayake, Silvanna, Angela Seneviratne, Roshi, and not quite among the divas Sanwada Abeygunasekera. Lou Ching in his two numbers, the "Japanese Boy" with Shohan and "Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend" brought the house down with appreciation, while Ronnie Leach with Koluu did a number titled "But You Love Me Ronnie". The finale was Bollywood at its best and could have been off any film set in Mumbai. There were the signature panties to be swirled in the air and much fun which provided a starved for entertainment audience a night to remember.
The entire fashionable crowd of Colombo were there to enjoy this relaxed and fun filled evening, though most of them ignored the Pink and Protective garb requested for. Ofcourse this did not prevent fashion making its own statement, perhaps naturally with the presence of people of the calibre of Yolande Aluvihare Holms, Ramani Fernando, Priyanthi Fernando, Sithara Fernando and some among the younger set such as Shimmie and her friend from Africa Tulapona in luminous hair pieces, with Sangeetha Weeraratne sporting a new look which was very becoming. There was Natasha Nathanielsz and Nishani Dahanayake, in trendy gear, and of course, Shobana Nagendra, Rashmi Ukwatte, and Ranmali Mirchandani. In a shimmering pink mother of pearl dress was Mrs. Ishan de Lanerolle and on more formal lines and in saree were Lorainne Yaseen and Nirmal Perera.
Thankyou Koluu and all your friends who contributed to a unique show which brought a hilarious and sparkling evening to be enjoyed by those lucky enough to be present, all of whom will look forward to the next time around. Special mention must be made of the costumes from the Lou Ching Atelier which were lavish and colourful and provided the perfect finish to a show which will live in the memories till the next such events with the Monarch of Burlesque in this country, who I think can take some of the western world by storm.
