CIC Agribusiness pledged an initial RS. 5 million towards a fund to help rural communities. The Rural Humanity Services Foundation (RUHUSEF) will be sustained by a percentage of sales from all agriculture products and a percentage from it’s retail sales.
The foundation was launched during a press event at CIC’s Hingurakgoda farm last month. The local two schools in the area – one on the farm itself – have already benefited from continuous CIC initiatives, which have included providing Educational Scholarships and improving infrastructure facilities, including building a school library.
The fund is going to be used to continue uplifting the living standards of the rural population, with a special emphasis on rural education. ‘The reward [for CIC] will be contended workers and a thriving business’, said Marlon Fernandopulle, CIC Director, HR and Corporate Affairs.
The press event also featured the launch of a song written especially for the RUHUSEF fund by Wasantha Dukgannarala. It’s called ‘Govita’ (farmer’s song).
