Several
senior police officers and two retired Inspectors General of Police have
been questioned, by the Commission to Investigate Bribery or Corruption,
in connection with some irregularities and corruption in the police
department, police sources said.
Former IGPs Victor Perera and Chandra Fernando were among the high ranking officers questioned by the Bribery Commission. Chandra Fernando said the Bribery Commission had sought clarification on some matters concerning the Police Department and he had given a statement accordingly, Victor Perera said anyone could be questioned by the Bribery Commission but that did not mean the person questioned was guilty of an offence. During his career in the police department he had served it without creating any problems, he said.
