

The aim of the Castle Street Hospital for Women is to provide quality maternal, and neo-natal care and training of health personnel to render an impeccable health service to women. The hospital prioritizes in modern medical practices and efficient use of resources in a friendly environment while maintaining cordial working relationships between patients and the staff, Director of the Castle Street Hospital for Women Dr. Wimal Karadagoda said on the occasion of National Quality Week held at hospital’s auditorium recently.
Dr. Karadagoda said that the Castle Street Tertiary Care Maternity hospital would mainly focus on curative healthcare services of expectant mothers ensuring safe motherhood as high risk mothers were identified and treated from the very inception.
He pointed out that the hospital had achieved success in BCG vaccination and a special emphasis had been laid to improve the quality of vaccination by way of proper techniques, monitoring adverse effects following immunization.
Dr. Karadagoda said that changing attitudes of hospital staff was rather difficult task to cope with but the management had been able to motivate the staff to treat patients humanly. The hospital had also achieved productivity eliminating waste and rationalization of resources had been put into practice.
The Hospital’s Registrar (medical administration) Dr. S. Sridharan said that the hospital had embarked on providing a number of quality health services for mothers.
He also said that screening of food handlers attached to the hospital kitchen was being done to ensure consumption of hygienic food and food samples were being analysed on regular basis with the assistance of the Colombo Municipality Food Control Unit.
