Sakvithi depositor complains to SC
CB failed in its duty

A depositor of Sakvithi House Construction Pvt. Limited has complained to the Supreme Court that the Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka failed to comply with the duties vested in the Central Bank, by the Finance Companies Act No. 78 of 1988 and thereby paved the way for a massive fraud of pubic funds. The petitioner said that the he and 2000 other depositors should be entitled to redress from the Central Bank to recover their monies deposited with an unlawful finance company. The petition has requested the Supreme Court to declare that the Central Bank should pay the monies due to the petitioner and the other depositors who were cheated by the unlawful finance company, whose existence had seemingly not been supervised by the Central Bank.

The Petition has requested the Monetary Board to submit to the Court the files maintained by the Central Bank pertaining to the the financial operation of the Sakvithi Construction House Pvt. Limited and its proprietor Sakvithi Ranasinghe.

Buddhika Lakmal Wijesekera, The petitioner has said that he lost Rs. 1,000,000/- due to the fraudulent operations of the finance company.

Among the respondents are the Monetary Board of the Central Bank, the former Secretary to the Treasury and the Sakvithi Construction House Pvt Limited.

The instructing attorney in the case is Priyalal Sirisena.

The Petition will be supported in the Court, shortly.
