The present rainy weather was caused by inter-monsoon conditions, but the increased thunderstorms and heavy rains throughout the country were caused by a low level atmospheric disturbance, Meteorologist Gayana Hendavitharana told The Island yesterday (20).
She said heavy rains could be experienced in any part of the country and downpours as heavy as 100 millimetres could fall during the next few days.
The highest rainfall of 156.7 mm of rains was recorded at Neboda in the Kalutara District while Katunayake recorded 111mm of rainfall during the 24 hours up to yesterday morning. Inter-monsoon rains could go on till the beginning December, she said.
