NFF calls for a  parliamentary debate on ‘Indian intervention’
National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa, in a letter to Speaker W. J. M. Lokubandara, called for an immediate meeting of leaders of political parties represented in Parliament to discuss what he terms an Indian intervention in Sri Lanka against the on-going humanitarian operations in the Vanni.

The issue should be discussed in the House Weerawansa says requesting Speaker W. J. M. Lokubandara to call a party leaders’ meeting today (21) morning to decide on a date for the debate.

The Tamil Nadu government led by Chief Minister Karunanidhi has requested the Indian Central government to intervene in Sri Lanka’s internal affairs and enforce a ceasefire. The parliamentarians representing Karunanidhi’s DMK have that they will resign unless the Central Government does as they say. Some of them have already submitted post-dated resignation letters. CM Karunanidhi has said in a recent statement that they were ready to stop the operations of the Lankan armed forces against the LTTE at any cost, Weerawansa says in his letter to the Speaker.

Weerawansa points out that if the Indian Central government succumbed to the pressure of pro- LTTE forces that would strengthen the hands of separatist terrorists on their last legs.

Weerawansa requests the support of Leader of the House Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, Chief Opposition whip MP Joseph Michael Perera, Chief Government whip Minister Dinesh Gunawardane to act against the undue Indian intervention.
