

General Secretary of the Graduate Employee’s Union Chandana Suriyarachchi told The Island, that the Government had reneged on its promise to that effect. Upon recruitment, the graduates had been promised that they would be appointed as teachers. The government had done as promised in other provinces, he said.
"There are around 700 graduates working in schools and other government educational institutions in the Wayamba province as clerks and teaching assistants, etc. The NWP Chief Minister is blocking their appointment as teachers," Suriyarachchi said.
About 1,300 graduates in Southern Province schools were recently absorbed into the teacher service. About 600 graduates in the Central Province and 30 in the Sabaragamuwa Province had received teaching appointments.
Chief Minister of Wayamba Province, Provincial Education Secretary, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha, former Secretary of the Wayamba Province and Secretary to the Education Ministry Nimal Bandara will be cited as respondents.
