Doctors attached to the Ayurvedic Teaching Hospital Borella have called off their work-to-rule campaign following an assurance given by the National Salaries and Cadres Commission (NSCC).
A spokesman for the All Ceylon Government Ayurvedic Medical Officers Union (ACGAMOU) said on Sunday that they had received the assurance at a meeting with the NSCC on Friday.
All the doctors started a work to rule campaign on August 18 in protest against the non-payment of their allowances.
The allowances including traveling, on-call, non pensionable allowances have not been paid since 1997. The Ayurvedic doctors demanded that they be paid all their dues.
General Secretary of the ACGAMOU, Dr. U. C. K. Samarakoon told The Island that Ministry of Indigenous Medicine had appointed a committee including trade union members to look into their demands. A report of the committee had been submitted to the NSCC, which gave doctors the assurance in answer to their question.
