13-year-old Fernando clobbers 300 in 98 balls

Chamika Sasanka Fernando, a thirteen-year-old from Wadduwa MMV, has scored a swashbuckling 316 runs in just 102 balls in an Under-13 Division-II match against Bombuwala Navodya School at Wadduwa on Thursday (16), a team official told ‘The Island’ on Sunday.

In his scintillating knock, the left-hander has clobbered 34 sixes and 16 fours helping Wadduwa MMV to post 498 for five declared in 59 overs.

The lad, who is in his last year in the Under-13 age category, has scored the first century in just 35 balls and has reached his double century in 71 balls. The third century has come in just 27 balls.

Fernando, whose previous top score in a school tournament has been 105, which has been scored last year against Taxila College, Horana.

The youngster has previously proved his capability in holding a long handle when he scored a match-winning 36 runs in 13 balls against Sri Sumangala College, Panadura. Needing just 46 runs then to record an outright victory for his school, Fernando has scored his 36 in 13 balls to reach the target with a ball to spare.
