The German Beach Volleyball Federation (DVV) together with Mount Lavinia Hotel will help endorse Sri Lankan beaches by promoting several beach volleyball camps in Sri Lanka.
This is in cooperation with Club Bentota, Mount Lavinia Hotel, Crystal Holidays and Sri Lankan Airlines.
The fist ever camp will be held from 18th to 23rd November 2008 followed by the next, in April 2009 and subsequently in 2010.
The aim of this gigantic enterprise is to bring down German beach Volleyball camps for training and tournaments especially during the winter season. This will allow the German players to utilize the lush tropical beaches of Sri Lanka in place of artificially made ones they currently use.
The DVV’s decision to choose Sri Lanka as a destination for their training camps further endorses Sri Lanka as a sports tourism destination.
This is a niche hitherto unexplored by Sri Lankan tourism, blessed as we are with extensive natural beaches. The target is not only the volleyball players, but their fanfare, and their families
The Mount Lavinia Hotel further reiterates its commitment to the development of Beach Volley Ball in Sri Lanka by announcing the Mount Lavinia Hotel Cup, with attractive Prize Money, to be hosted in November on its purpose built Courts on Paradise Beach, Mount Lavinia Hotel and at Club Bentota. The Hotel also announced plans of sponsoring the National Team.
Currently our National Team is the South Asian Champions. Sri Lanka Beach Volley Ball Association Secretary said "with the active participation and support of the sponsors our goal is to be the Asian Champs in the next 4 years".
By setting up a fully equipped International Standard Court, Mount Lavinia Hotel aspires to support Sri Lanka’s national sport and Sri Lanka Tourism.
