

The Ministry has called for a report from those who were responsible for this computer. The missing computer belonged to the Deputy Commi-ssioner of Finance and banking. This was an important machine that stored all details of VAT refunds, income and tax payments.
According to Inland Revenue Department sources the computer was kept under lock and key in the Deputy Commissioner’s room.
Vital information on the recent multi billion rupee VAT scam, which is before Courts, was stored in the computer.
Several big time businessmen and a Deputy Commissioner of the Inland Revenue Department have been charged over this scam.
