Rain could affect Parliament Complex
Minister of Housing Geethanajana Gunawardena, presenting the Interim Report of the Select Committee to assess the present condition of the Parliament Complex, as Chairman of the committee said the present rainy weather did not threaten the complex at present but it could pose a threat in the future. Even if a short term measure was adopted by an engineer, a single engineer could not address the problem. Attention would have to be paid to that problem and measures taken to prevent a threat to the parliamentary complex.
Speaker W. J. M. Lokubandara: Could you not take measures as you have been appointed Chairman of the committee.
Geethanjana: I have no authority to direct operations of the parliament but you, as the Speaker, would have to take action in an emergency. The Information and Communication Technology Agency is the proper authority to take up the task of modernization programme and I think they should be consulted.
