Amidst a world of spirits in an eerie atmosphere, the Halloween Dinner Dance at Palm Beach Hotel, Mt. Lavinia, will signal the feast of the souls of the dead, on Saturday, November 1, 2008.
"We are lining up an unforgettable night of horror in keeping with the typical Halloween tradition, which originated in Ireland in the 19th century", says Ravin Gunawardana, Palm Beach Hotel’s General Manager.
"The Halloween Dinner Dance this time will be different as we are also using up the spacious garden along the Pool Side to make the atmosphere more ghostly", he noted. "The trees within the natural environment will make decorating easier for a more weird setting".
There will be prizes galore to be won at the Halloween Dance for the Scariest Halloween Dress, Halloween Queen and the Loudest Scream, amongst other eerie competitions.
"We are inviting all ghosts out there to a world of spirits!", Gunawardana, continued "It is a rare experience one should not miss".
With DJ Music providing the entertainment and a bottle of Scotch whisky for each 10 pax table, the Halloween Dance includes a sumptuous dinner buffet with appetizers, salads, soups, hot dishes and desserts on offer.
EFM is the media sponsor of the Palm Beach Halloween Dance, which is being held for the second successive time. The first was a roaring success.
According to tradition, Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, ghost tours, bonfires, costume parties, visiting "haunted houses", carving Jack-o’-lanterns, reading scary stories and watching horror movies.
Irish immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North America in the nineteenth century. Other western countries embraced the holiday in the late twentieth century.
Black cats, owls and bats often symbolizes Halloween Day as they are considered to be bad spirits of the dead.
