Madam, take your medicine like a woman

Dhammica Lankatilleke has to be congratulated heartily on his/her article in the Sunday Island October 26 titled: "A fund to help CBK?" Preposterous!

I pile on a few more reactions to the news item that appeared some time last week purporting that Chandrika B Kumaratunga requested her supporters to collect the fine imposed on her by the Supreme Court for the pivotal role she played in the Waters Edge ‘robbery’.

This is not only preposterous but downright unworthy of one who occupied the apex of political power. That post carries a profound responsibility, which other incumbents, in the present and the future, should be acutely conscious. As President Mahinda Rajapaksa rightly said on his inauguration as President, he was merely a custodian of public trust, thus far and no further.

To all intents and purposes, it is a rational thought that she benefitted from the ‘raw’ deal personally. So why should others pay her fine.
