Make Waters Edge hostel for outstation MPS

Reference R M B Senanayake’s suggestion that the Parliament be shifted to Waters Edge, I would suggest that it be converted into a hostel for Members of Parliament from the oustations. I am told that the Members of Parliament are now paid a sum of Rs. 100,000 a month each as rent if they are not provided with official residences. Members of Parliament from the Western Province can travel from home.

Providing accommodation at Waters Edge will also put an end to road closures which has become a regular exercise on the days when Parliamnt sits. An overpass connecting Parliament and the hostel at Waters Edge could also benefit the public as well as the legislators. No doubt the public will be much relieved.

It will be a win-win situation for the man-on-the-street.
