DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) - Jesse Ryder and Brendon McCullum shared a 137-run stand to guide New Zealand to 198 for four at tea Tuesday after losing three quick wickets in the first session of play possible in the rain-restricted second cricket test against Bangladesh.
After waiting three days to get the match started, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to field first on ¶d fourth scheduled day at Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium and had the tourists in trouble in the fourth over at 10 for two.
Mashrafe bin Murtaza struck first when he trapped Aaron Redmond (2) lbw for 2 on the fifth ball of the third over. Mahbubul Alam bowled Jamie How (8) on the first ball of the next over to compound the problems for New Zealand and Shahadt Hossain then removed Ross Taylor (19).
But after reaching lunch at 55-3m Ryder and McCullum added 137 runs off 218 balls.
Ryder was approaching his hundred before Abdur Razzak had him caught by Mehrab Hossain for 91 to make New Zealand 186-4.
At tea McCullum was unbeaten on 64 with Daniel Flynn on 3.
The first three days were washed out but there was no sign of rain on day four, allowing for a start with only two scheduled days remaining and with New Zealand leading the two-match series 1-0.
Bangladesh selected Alam to replace Nayeem Islam while New Zealand drafted in South Africa-born Grant Elliot to replace all-rounder Jacob Oram, who was ruled out because of back problems.
