Defrauder promises Court to repay loan
A person who was alleged to have defrauded 2 million rupees, pledged before the Moratuwa District Judge, that he would repay same. The respondent, Neville Kroon, was sued by Asha Phillips to recover the sum that she had sent to the respondent from abroad.
The plaintiff, Asha Phillips and the respondent had been friends for a long time, and she had been working in Italy when the respondent requested her for 2 million rupees to build a house.
Asha Phillips sent the money in two instalments and on her return asked for the return of the money, but the respondent had refused to pay, denying he received money from her.
When the case was taken up before the District Judge of Moratuwa, B. A. R. Somasinghe, the respondent admitted that he took the said amount and pleaded he would pay only 1.25 million rupees. The plaintiff agreed to accept the amount from Kroon giving him one and half years time to re-pay the balance.
