

The army yesterday afternoon pierced an LTTE defence line about three kilometres east of Mannar-Pooneryn A 32 road and six kilometres north-east of Madam as the Task Force I stepped up pressure on Pooneryn.
Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said that troops captured a two kilometre stretch of the LTTE defence line at Paddaruyal villu. The army recovered 15 bodies along with 13 T 56 assault rifles and one radio communication set.
