

Thai Airways International has reached another milestone in its operations with the South East Asian airline celebrating 32 years of uninterrupted flights to Sri Lanka today.
Airline’s General Manager (Sri Lanka /Maldives) Weerawat Swadibutra in an interview with "The Island" said "Though there were many drawbacks and uncertain situations in Sri Lanka during the last there decades Thai Airways has shown its deep commitment towards Sri Lanka,"
There have been delays due to unavoidable circumstances but the airline has never cancelled a single flight Bangkok- Colombo-Bangkok he pointed out.
Swasdibutra assured that the airline would continue to serve Sri Lanka with the same commitment and dedication maintaining Collombo as a permanent destination in the airline’s network.
"We always appreciate the support and encouragement given by the Sri Lanka government and the people over the years to the airline.
"Thailand has been an affordable destination for Sri Lankan’s and now Thai operates four flights a week between Bangkok and Colombo," he said.
Both business traffic as well as leisure traffic has increased to Thailand while the number of Thai tourists visiting the island also have increased Swasdibutra added.
Thai airways has been the mainstay for Sri Lankan travellers, many traveling to the far east choose Thai because of the convenient connections from Bangkok to many parts of the world he noted.
"Many pilgrims have taken advantage of this facility to visit Buddhist sites in both countries. Thai also provides the most convenient connection to those travelling to Myanmar and the Buddhist pilgrims and those organizing package tours have taken full advantage of this facility," he said.
Swasdibutra appreciated the support rendered by his staff and said they are our biggest asset and the airline wouldn’t have achieved the success we enjoy if not for them. "It’s team work" he added.
