Polls only after expiry of PC terms
President tells councillors, CMs of WP and CP
Amidst speculation that the government might opt for snap PC elections in some provinces, President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday told the ruling party councilors and chief ministers of the Western and the Central Provincial Councils at Temple Trees that elections to PCs would be held after the expiry of their terms.
However, the councillors told the President that they were ready for polls anytime.
President Rajapaksa said the objective of his meeting with the councilors and chief ministers was to elicit their views and proposals in the run up to the budget to be presented to Parliament shortly.
The President met the Western Province councillors in the morning and the Central Province councilors in the afternoon.
