The appointment of a new National Tennis Selection Committee has been postponed at an Interim Committee meeting of the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA), held at SLTA headquarters in Colombo, yesterday.
Interim Committee Gen. Secretary Maxwell De Silva said on Saturday (1), that the Interim Committee had in its agenda the appointment of new faces as National tennis selectors.
"We didn’t take up that matter (appointing new selectors) today (Sunday), since some of our committee members were absent. We hope to send the names of the new Selection Committee for Sports Ministry ratification in one week’s time," De Silva told ‘The Island’ yesterday.
Sports and Public Recreation Minister Gamini Lokuge dissolved the previous four-member national Selection Committee, headed by P. S. Kumara, last March, following a Davis Cup team selection dispute. Later Lokuge postponed the SLTA AGM on April 24 and appointed an interim administration under previous SLTA president, Janaka Bogollagama, on August 30.
Both Kumara and Asiri Iddamalgoda have handled team selection since the appointment of the nine-member Interim Committee, of which both are members.
