The Sri Lanka Under-20 rugby team, led by Dinusha Chathuranaga of Isipatana College, Colombo, left the island last night, to take part in the Youth Asiad in Korea.
According to current rankings, Sri Lanka stands third behind Hong Kong and Korea and the team, with the inclusion of some top players at school level, is expected to make an impact at the tournament.
The team also includes five National poolists in skipper Dinusha Chathuranaga, Sajith Saranga, Sharo Fernando, Bilal Hassan, Ishan Noor and Sharo Fernando.
Sri Lanka will meet Singapore in their inaugural fixture tomorrow while the team is expected to reach Seoul only by mid night on November 3, which may see them weary after travel with hardly any time to get accustomed to the weather conditions. An official from the SLRFU commenting in this respect stated that this was because of the complex situation Sri Lanka rugby was driven into, as a result of many crises at senior level.
