New BOI Job Bank website launched

Minister of Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion, Dr. Sarath Amunugama launched the BOI Job Bank website Chairman/Director General, BOI, Dhammika Perera and senior officials of the BOI were present at the occasion.

A brainchild of the Minister, the website will facilitate interaction between BOI companies and youth who are seeking jobs. This service is provided to the organizations and individuals free of charge by the BOI. The main objective of the project is to inform the public of career opportunities available in BOI companies.

The link for the job bank can be found on the main page for the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka www.investsrilanka.com. By clicking on the Job Bank icon, prospective employers and employees can gain access to thousands of jobs and a large database of employees seeking jobs. Employers can access the website to post vacancies available in their respective organizations with detailed requirements i.e. job category, professional experience, educational qualification, posting of the job (district) etc.

Job seekers can upload their curriculum vitae to the website which can then be accessed and evaluated by companies. After a simple registration process a password and a username will be issued to users of the site which will enable them to edit and update their accounts on a regular basis to insert new vacancies or make amendments to uploaded personal data.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Amunugama said a large number of unfulfilled vacancies existed at BOI companies as there wasn’t a proper channel of communication between job seekers and companies to share mutually beneficial information. The Minister said the new website will address this issue by acting as a conduit between the two parties.

Citing an example, the Minister said there were 64 vacancies at the BOI Industrial Park at Pallekale. He said that it was unlikely that unemployed youth even in the vicinity of the zone were aware of the vacancies. However, the website can address this communication gap, the Hon Minister said.

Chairman/Director General, BOI, Dhammika Perera said currently, there were more than 11,000 vacancies at BOI companies. He said unemployed youth will now have an opportunity to gain access to these jobs through the website.

The website will carry all the vacancies that exist in BOI companies as well as those that exist in other companies in sectors such as IT/BPO, garments, telecommunications, construction, infrastructure development, tourism and leisure, banking and finance etc. Most of the jobs that will be posted on the website will be operational vacancies.
