TMC/FCI evening presentation on the impact of the global financial crisis on Sri Lanka

The Management Club will hold yet another evening presentation of value to its members and affiliates, the Chartered Management Institute-UK, Sri Lanka Branch and The Forum of Chartered Institutes under its Way Forward … series on Thursday 27th November 2008 at the Galle Face Hotel on a topic of high relevance in today's context - the impact of the global financial crisis on Sri Lanka. The presentation would also be open to guests and the public who wish to benefit from this discussion.

Members have been privileged to participate in a series of development related evening presentations under "the Way Forward" series since January this year where topics such as Leadership, Empowerment, IT, Banking and Finance, world trends and current affairs have been presented by well known international and local panelists in interactive sessions that have been well accepted and patronized by Club members and their guests.

TMC is proud to announce that three very well known personalities would serve as panelists at this presentation , Ms Marina Tharmaratnam, CEO/Director Union Assurance PLC, Dr Harsha de Silva, Lead Economist, Lirne Asia and Rajan Brito, Chairman Development Finance Corporation and DCFF Vardhana Bank, lead by well known International Management Consultant and Chairman/Moderator, Ranel T Wijesinha.

Marina Tharmaratnam is the Chief Executive Officer/Director Union Assurance PLC. She is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Marketer trained at Ernst & Young, with an IT professional qualification.

She currently serves as a member of the following committees: President of the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors, Chamber Committee and the Taxation Sub-Committee of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Council of The Employers Federation of Ceylon, and the Ethics, Company Law Review & Continuing Professional Education Committees of the Institute of the Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka,

Rajan Brito is a Law Graduate of London University, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales and obtained a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the City Business School, London. Together with this multi-disciplined knowledge, he also brings with him a wealth of 25 years of international experience working with Price Waterhouse - London, British EverReady PLC, Minmetco Group, World Bank and PERC. Presently Mr. Brito is Chairman of the Development Finance Corporation of Ceylon and the DFCC Vardhana Bank. He is a former Chairman of Sri Lankan Airlines, and was a non-executive Director of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation and the Strategic Enterprise Management Agency and the Task Force for Rebuilding the Nation. Brito was appointed to the Board of Aitken Spence & Co. Ltd. in April 2000; Managing Director in January 2002; and Deputy Chairman and Managing Director in April 2003.

Dr Harsha de Silva, Lead Economist, Lirne Asia is a development economist working in the emerging Asia region. Dr de Silva is consultant with a number of multi-lateral organizations focusing on economics of infrastructure quality. He holds a PhD from the University of Missouri, USA. Dr De Silva also teaches at the Post Graduate Program of the University of Moratuwa.

Ranel T Wijesinha, international management consultant provides consultancy and advisory services to bilateral and multilateral development finance institutions. For more than 15 years, he has made consistent contribution to national and regional policy dialogue, since returning to Sri Lanka and has chaired and moderated national regional and international macro and micro economic development related policy discussions and debates on over 250 occassions. His track record as an independent and objective professional with depth and breadth of knowledge on a wide variety of topics is well established. He was the First Chairman/Moderator of the GTZ funded "Key Persons Forum" of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry of Sri Lanka where he structured and moderated several sessions featuring Ministers of the Government of Sri Lanka. Ranel would be Chairman/Moderator of this interesting and valuable presentation by our key panelists. The Management Club, Galle Face Hotel would be open to registrations of interested participants from week 17th November onwards.
