Bus operators claim NTC has violated it policy

The Lanka Private Bus Operators Association has informed the National Transport Commission Chairman that the NTC has seriously violated the National Transport Policy.

The Association would not be in a position to work within the stipulated fare structure , President of the Association, Gemunu Wijeratne said yesterday.

He said that the Association had agreed to reduce the bus fares after the government reduced the price of diesel by Rs 30. But he urged the Transport Minister to have a discussion with them on matters relating to the issue related to the National Transport Policy.

"We cannot agree to the bus fares announced by the National Transport Commission and if they persist on implementing these fares we will be compelled to resort to trade union action, or take recourse to the law" he said.

An official of the NTC said the government decision would not be changed.

The revised Fare structure released by the NTC is given below.
