Security at power plants to be beefed up

Security arrangements are now being drawn up with the assistance of the Army to protect all major power plants in the country, Power and Energy Minister W. D. J. Seneviratne said in a statement issued yesterday.

A special discussion was held in this regard on Thursday at the Ministry with the participation of the Minister and senior officials of the Army. It was decided to provide security to vital power plants by deploying the Ceylon Electricity Board security officers along with armed forces men.

The Ministry is now in the process ascertaining the background of all those who are employed in the Upper Kotmale and Norachcholai power plants that are being constructed.

Minister W. D. J. Seneviratne, Secretary to the Ministry M. M. C. Ferdinando, Major General Ranjith Soysa and several other senior Ministry and Army officials participated in Thursday’s meeting.
