The inaugural Budget of the fifth Provincial Council of
the North Central Province was passed on Thursday by a majority of eight
votes.
Eighteen ruling UPFA members voted for the Budget while
nine Opposition UNP members and the sole JVP member opposed it.
The newly elected UNP member R. M. Prasanna Kumara
Mahindaratne abstained from voting and two other UNP councilors A. C. R.
Naina Mohamed and S. H. M. Ansar were not present at the time of voting
despite being active participants in the debate after the presentation of
the Budget on Wednesday.
