I wonder what made Austin Fernando choose the singularly appropriate title "My Belly is White" for his self-exculpatory account of his role in the infamous CFA. In normal English usage ‘showing a white belly’ means surrender or cowardice – when a hunted fox turns on his back and shows his white belly of submission.
Did Austin choose this title out of ignorance, or to illustrate that Sinhala proverb "you may lie through your teeth but the tongue will speak the truth"?
