At a recent meeting attended, by the officials of the Ministry of Education, Principals and Teachers the DFCC Bank unveiled its CSR initiatives for the year 2009 and beyond."The vision of DFCC’s CSR initiative is to guide children ‘Towards an Exemplary Society’. DFCC has invested more than Rs.10 million into this project and have given priority to the children who will be the leaders of the country in the future. The programme will be initially launched in selected schools island wide, but will continue to scale up as the years roll and is planned to be made available to a number of needy schools in the future", CEO of the DFCC Bank, Nihal Fonseka noted. "DFCC Bank believes in investing in children’s activities as it is the best investment that a country could do. The DFCC Bank through its network has conducted several programmes for the rural schools in Sri Lanka such as, providing computers, equip a laboratory or a library, water and sanitation, seminars and workshops for children", he said."To make the school environment a better place is not just the responsibility of the Principal, but it is also the responsibility of the parents as well as the students. When there is a green and peaceful environment around the students they could concentrate more on their studies and they get creative ideas. To make it happen we have to train the child’s mind at an early age. We could change the classroom by equipping it, but it will not last long. Changing their attitudes for the good will remain forever and that will help us to develop as a whole. Compared to other South Asian countries Sri Lanka is far ahead in Education", Secretary Ministry of Education, M. M. N. D. Bandara said. "Teacher training and parent guidance will be a key part of the vital work of inculcating in children good habits and respect for the environment. The training will enable teachers to effectively weave the disciplines into the early learning classrooms. Parents are expected to encourage children to take the disciplines beyond the classroom and into their homes", Consultant Productivity and 5S, Lal Fonseka highlighted.
