No Parliamentary polls just yet - HM

Although a majority of the politicians and people thought that parliament would be dissolved once the budget was approved and a general election would be held, the government had no intention of doing so next year. It is only planning to dissolve the remaining provincial councils shortly, Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said at the inauguration ceremony of the Balapitiya Base hospital surgical wards complex recently.

Minister de Silva said that the surgical wards complex for the Balapitiya Base hospital was a long-felt necessity and the Cyprus Red Cross spent Rs. 10 million for the construction. The Government was of the view that the country was not in need of a General Election because everything that could be done to cater to the needs of the people was being done by the Government.

He pointed out that the Government was not afraid of holding elections because the people had realized that UPFA was the one which had painstakingly taken several progressive measures for the sake of people. The budget was passed with a majority and the Government had the majority of votes to govern the country.

Minister de Silva added that this was an era of victories because the valiant security forces had liberated Pooneryn area after 15 years. It was a victory. The Government would never overshadow the abilities of the security forces and would encourage them to go ahead with a sense of responsibility and dedication to defeat the enemy. The capture of Mulaitivu would take place in a matter of months and the liberation of entire Jaffna peninsula would was not a pipe dream.

He said that the International Red Cross had agreed to refurbish 71 hospitals at its expenses and the Red Cross had allocated Rs.300 billion for the purpose.
