

"Export Financing and Methods of Settlement"
The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka will hold a one day workshop on "Export Financing & Methods of Settlement" on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm in the Auditorium of the NCCSL, 450, D R Wijewardena Mawatha, Colombo 10. This is an interactive course taking the participants through the procedures from receipt of trade inquiry to presentation of documents. It deals with the problems of how to avoid unworkable credits, avoiding the necessity for amendments and some basic errors. Workshop covers "Methods of settlements – associated risks, Letter of Credit (L/C), the necessary information needed for dealing with L/C’s - what exporters need to get, what is an L/C and why are they needed - including a review of the different types, a review of the other methods of payment - including documentary collections, the L/C procedure - including a study of the functions of each party involved, advantages and disadvantages of dealing with L/C’s, whose job it is within the company to deal with L/C’s, what information is found within a L/C - a study of every significant item of information and terminology exporters need to understand, what happens at the bank after they receive your document, why L/C’s go wrong? and what happens if things do go wrong?, export financing and sources of exports, export orders, executing and making the application for bank finance and required documents. This workshop is ideal for all involved in international trade including sales personnel, accounts staff and those involved in order processing. The resource person is M. H. A. Azhar, Consultant – Banking, Finance & Skills Development. Azhar is an ex banker having served in different positions at the Bank of Ceylon for 39 years ending up as an Asst. General Manager. Throughout his banking career he has acquired insight experience relating to corporate finance, retail banking, credit operations, remedial credit, international banking, trade finance, audit and skills development.
