DSG informs Supreme Court
Three Gazetted environment taxes will be revoked

Deputy Solicitor General Mrs. B. J. Tilakaratne yesterday told the Supreme Court that the Ministry of Environment will revoke the recent levies gazetted for TV towers, broadcasting tower, on bulbs other than fluorescent lamps and on motor vehicle sirens. The levy on mobile phones will remain.

The gazette was issued on July 22, 2008.

It was challenged by the Venerable Maduluwawe Sobitha and the Venerable Thiriyawala Palitha Theras of Nugegoda.

In view of the undertaking by the Minister, the case was terminated.

M. A. Sumanthiran appeared with Sharmain Guneratne instructed by G. G. Arulpragasam for the petitioner.

The Bench comprised the Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva Justice K. Sripavan and Justice P. A. Ratnayake.
