The Supreme Court yesterday refused an application by the UNP to intervene in the petition filed by the UPFA, calling for the counting of the preference votes polled by the UPFA, at the recent Provincial Council polls in the Anuradhapura District.

The Deputy Solicitor General Sanjay Rajaratne, who appeared for the Commissioner of Elections, objected to the intervention.

Ronald Perera appeared for the UNP.
