Defaming Lankan Constitution
Court issues notice on 3 TNA MPs

The Colombo Chief Magistrate yesterday noticed three Tamil National Alliance parliamentarians to be present in Court on December 10 following following a CID report to the Court that they had defamed the Constitution.

The Criminal Investigations Department told the Court that the three MPs, who attended Pongu Tamil celebrations in both Australia and Europe, had made seditious speeches defaming the Sri Lanka Constitution. The CID submitted a Compact Disc containing the speeches.

TNL MPs for Batticola District Senadiraja Jeyananda Murthi, Ariya Netharan Pakya Selvam and MP for Jaffna District Selvaraja Gajendran had made the speeches criticising the Sri Lankan government and its armed forces in front of the German Democratic Republic Parliament. They had solicited support for the establishment of Eelam and the struggle of LTTE Supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran.

The CID informed Court that the statements of the three MP’s on their return had been recorded, in which they had admitted to having made them.
