Only LTTE sympathisers would ask for ceasefire
If India thinks it is wise to request Sri Lanka to go for another ceasefire with the LTTE that would be a great mistake. "It had made such blunders under the pressure of LTTE agents in South India and paid heavily," National Freedom Front MP and politburo member, Piyasiri Wijenayake told a press conference held at the party head office in Battaramulla on Friday.
Defeating the LTTE terrorist outfit that threatens the security of the entire region, would be a victory for the entire region of South Asia, he said. "Government troops engaged with what is known as the world’s most ruthless terrorist outfit and during last three decades it had continuously possessed a threat to the security of the region.
The government has no need of commencing negotiations with the LTTE and had rightly demanded that the terrorists should lay down arms before any talks, he said. "None but only the LTTE sympathizers could ask for a ceasefire between the troops and terrorists."
India too is bearing the brunt of terrorism and the most recent experiences in Mumbai could simply emphasize the need of taking the bull by horns approach rather than wasting time, money and more lives by opting for talks with terrorists, he said. "Sri Lanka will not ask India to go for talks with terrorists responsible for the Mumbai mayhem. Even if we make such an absurd request would India comply? So, how could India justify if it demands that we should negotiate for a political settlement with terrorists?" he queried.
India had repeated its commitment to eliminate regional terrorism at many forums and has pronounced it clearlry that there was no room for separatism within its borders. "It would certainly be accused of double standard politics if it would succumb to South Indian LTTE agents’ pressure to save the LTTE. We also call upon the Lankan government not to give into any pressure international or local to stop humanitarian operations in the North to save Tamils used by the LTTE as a human shield," he said.
NFF politburo members MPs Achala Suranga Jagoda, Padma Udayashantha Gunasekera, and Weerkumara Dissanayake also participated in the conference.
