A Sri Lankan girl allegedly abandoned by her mother and grandmother in Japan four months ago was brought back by a Sri Lankan expatriate and handed over to her father on Friday.

The mother and the grandmother of two-year-old Dulakshi Romeka had fled to Japan taking her with them after cheating a group of persons of 25 million rupees in Sri Lanka. They had been promised overseas employment.

The Japanese police found the child abandoned in a house.

Dulakshi had been living in a Japanese children’s home when Roshani Ichihara received information about her.

Dulakshi was received by her father N. C. Jayaratne at the Katunayake Airport.

He thanked Udaya Wijeratne and Roshani Ichihara for having traced and brought Dulakshi home.

However, Dulakshi’s father cannot communicate with her as she speaks only Japanese.
