A depression had developed into a low pressure condition and the North-East and the Western Provinces will experience heavy rains, according to the Meteorology Department said.
Meteorological Department Acting Director General, G. B. Samarasinghe told ‘The Island’ that although some media reports had mentioned that a cyclone was heading towards Sri Lanka, originating from the Bay of Bengal, its formation in the Bay of Bangal would veer off.
He said that blustery weather would prevail over the next couple of days, but the North, East, North-Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western and Uva Provinces would experience torrential rains due to cloud cluster depression and low pressure. Sri Lanka would not experience strong winds, but the low pressure disturbances could develop gusty winds at times and fishermen in the North and East are advised to desist from deep sea fishing.
