Sri Lankan children very fortunate – Dr. Amunugama

KANDY – Children of Sri Lanka are more fortunate than those in many other countries, Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Minister of Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion said at the ceremony held to distribute educational material to school children. It was organized by the Sri Lanka Isuru Foundations based in Kandy.

Children received free education with free text books, free school uniforms and many other items. These facilities are not available to children in other countries, Minister Dr. Amunugama said.

In addition, these facilities from the government, many other non-government organizations assisted children in the form of welfare assistance, he said.

Sri Lanka Isuru Foundation was one of the voluntary organizations providing assistance to school children who came from not so rich families, Dr. Amunugama said paying a tribute to the foundation under the presidency of Don Mahinda Jayawardana.

He said children, the adult population of tomorrow should be given every possible assistance.

President, Isuru Foundation D. Mahinda Jayawardana Central PC, Member Minister Dilum Amunugama, Secretary Amunugama, Jayasena Godigama and Ms. H. Aluwihare addressed the gathering.

Kandy MMC, Sarath Wijesinghe, DIG, Pujith Jayasundara, Chairperson, Kandurata Development Bank (Ms) Kesalal Jayawardena were present.
